Elsie H. Landstrom was born on the lovely mountain in central China known as Lushan, and spent winters in Wuhu, Anhwei, a port on the Yangtze River about two hundred miles west of Shanghai. Twice she traveled with her parents around the world, spending time in the Mideast, Greece, Europe, England, New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

Her family returned to the US to stay in 1935; she received her BA degree fro Hamline University in St. Paul, MN in 1945, magna cum laude. Interested in people, in history (especially Chinese history), and in her natural surroundings, she found writing poetry a special solace and entryway into her own imagination. She has been working as a freelance writer and editor for the past twenty years.

She married Norman Landstrom, a Boston lawyer, in 1953 and has two children and an enchanting granddaughter. She lives in Conway, Massachusetts, in a home she designed and built; where she paints Chinese watercolors, the culmination of her interests in nature, art and Chinese culture.
